Just steps from the East River waterfront sits Nostos, a family-owned Greek tavern that's less about trends and more about authenticity. The name itself means "nostalgia," and this upscale tavern has built its identity around Greek culture, hospitality, and real regional cuisine, served the way it was meant to be shared. It's no surprise The Infatuation has already taken notice.

Step inside and you'll feel the vision immediately. Think elegant, homey, bohemian. For co-owners Alina Borys, Stefania Papadopoulos, Panos Seretis, George Tsampas, and Kosta Tsampas, it was all about celebrating the depth of Greek cuisine while still feeling like a true neighborhood spot. Picture earthy tones, blue and turquoise accents, and gold detailing, giving the whole room a glow.
Start off with a bright, herbal Mastiha Spritz made with the resin-kissed liqueur that's been a staple of Greek islands for centuries before easing into starters like sushi-grade Octopus. From there, devour tender Sword Fish Kebab served with house-cut oregano fries, or the New Zealand Lamb Chops, charcoal grilled with roasted lemon potatoes.
With dessert on deck, the night comes to a close on a high note. Or is this just the beginning?
Nostos is, at its core, a family project, one born out of two women deciding they weren't done building yet. Co-owners Alina Borys and Stefania Papadopoulos teamed up with Panos Seretis, George Tsampas, and Kosta Tsampas to transform a previously shuttered Greek restaurant into something that actually reflected how they grew up. Papadopoulos comes from a family that has always worked in hospitality, and she herself started in the industry at 14. It's the first business she's built entirely on her own terms, alongside partners she trusts completely.
The food follows the same instinct: cook what your family actually cooks, not what looks good on a menu template. The goal from day one was to bring specials to the table that the owners' own families would make at home, filling a gap they noticed in New York's Greek dining scene. Think too many spots serving some version of the same handful of dishes. The moussaka has become something of a phenomenon on its own, selling out consistently since opening.
Meat quality isn't an afterthought either, as they source directly through their other businesses, ensuring the same standard they'd want on their own tables. Olive oil is non-negotiable, and seed oils don't make an appearance anywhere in the kitchen. And some dishes carry their own quiet history, like the spinach pies made by an elderly husband-and-wife team from Epirus, a detail that speaks to how far the kitchen will go to keep things authentic.
Walk in and the space tells the rest of the story. Earthy tones, blue and turquoise accents, and gold detailing set a dreamy tone, while an art deco antique copper bar anchors the room. The result is a space built to hold both quiet dinners and full-blown Greek nights, and Nostos has already proven it can do both, as the restaurant hosted the official after-party for the New York Greek Independence Day Parade.
This is a restaurant that isn't chasing scale for its own sake. It's chasing the feeling its name promises: the ache of home, and the relief of finally getting there...
All selections will be made from the restaurant's full dinner menu.

"I had a really nice dinner here with fun cocktails and great food. I enjoyed the zucchini chips, the seafood orzo, and the lemon roasted potatoes. Everything was really flavorful, and all of the staff were so nice. Good atmosphere and clean. This is a great local spot and I would come back here again."
"A beautiful family owned restaurant. Fresh, authentic Greek cuisine and amazing hospitality!"
"Unlike many Greek restaurants in Manhattan, Nostos is different - some of the classics are there, but Nostos focuses on more traditional dishes from other parts of Greece besides the islands. And it nails it - delicious! The ownership are wonderful people and put a lot into making sure the customer is taken care of, which makes for a great atmosphere and solid service. Worth a visit - more than once!"
