A space by artists, for artists, Umbra a place for creatives to come together and cross pollinate, across mediums and divides. By day, they’re a cafe and music shop serving the local community. By night, the space transforms into en epicurean paradise where the boundaries of food, mixology, and live music melt away...and anything can happen.
When the lights go down and the band takes the stage, you'll watch in awe as you sip on a White Negroni or a Sake-tini, moving on to a feast, with past dishes such as Sherry Vinegar Gazpacho with tomatoes, avocado, cucumber, bell pepper, and sherry vinegar radish, and Gratin Dauphinois adorned with Emmentaler cheese, or Heritage Roast Pork Butt with garlic, lime, and dijon.
Desserts like Affogato (cafe integral espresso poured over vanilla ice cream) add the sweet finale to a night that is only just getting started...
Founded by musicians & creatives Zach Schepis and Jorge Guarch, Umbra opened to spectacular applause from locals in Bushwick, who became immediately enraptured by not only the versatile space that supports local businesses and artists, including musicians, coffee roasters, vineyards, breweries, and local chefs, but the delectable fare & potent drinks served by friendly staff.
A constantly shifting menu is crafted by seasonal Head Chef, Andrew Carlini, who takes nostalgic romps through his memories & combines them with an elevated twist. The menu varies with vibrant surprises from week to week, and even night to night as Carlini designs each dish based on the freshest ingredients sourced that very same day.
The result? A brilliant focus on the beauty in simplicity. Think overflowing, family-style plates of Warmed Gaeta Olives mixed with fennel seed & olive oil, Cannellini Dip with rosemary, garlic, roasted tomatillo salsa, and house toasted pita chips, or the Tinned Fish atop salsa verde and grilled bread. The meats are succulent, the produce divine, and every bite is magic.
Come time for drinks, expect nothing less than a sip-able haven of equally dreamy flavors & aromas. Welcome cocktails to the tune of Manhattans and Whiskey Sours will empty as you move on to a bottle of wine, opting for a bold red, a dazzling white, or a refreshing rosé, as each bottle is hand-picked by the culinary team.
