The Marianella Soap Bar was founded in 2007 by artist David Foote and his mother Marianella Febres-Cordero, who started making the company's aromatic natural soaps by hand in the confines of her home kitchen.
Before long, the brand's uncompromisingly artisanal and ambrosial products began appearing in The New York Times Style section and Oprah's Favorite Things.
Endorsements notwithstanding, each Marianella soap is still made by hand at 102 Thompson Street, using the same Venezuelan method that Febres-Cordero learned from her grandmother.
