When Charlie Palmer took over the kitchen at Brooklyn’s The River Café in 1983, he was just 23 and a recent graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. Five years later, he opened his first restaurant, Aureole, which The New York Times Magazine, climed put him at the “forefront of those who are trying to redefine American cuisine.” 30 years on, the James Beard Award–winning Palmer continues to dazzle.
Riana Mondavi is the granddaughter of Peter Mondavi, Sr., who along with his brother Robert Mondavi started the Mondavi winery in Napa Valley over 75 years ago. She is the third of four sisters and the first of her generation to start working for the family business, currently overseeing the Charles Krug Winery which the Mondavi family owns.
