Bastille Day is the French celebration of the Storming of the Bastille in 1789 during the French Revolution. And what better way to celebrate all things French than with An American In Paris. The Tony Award-winning musical is based on the Oscar-winning movie starring Gene Kelly, with music by George and Ira Gershwin. This new production is directed and choreographed by the present wunderkind of modern ballet Christopher Wheeldon.
An American in Paris follows American soldier Jerry Mulligan as he falls in love in Paris after WWII. Led by principal dancers from the New York City Ballet and The Royal Ballet in London, this Broadway hit may be hard to get tickets for but it should be easy to see this free performance on the outdoor stage on 60th street, just outside of the gorgeous FIAF building.
