Members of the LGBTQIA+ community have made tremendous strides in recent decades, and these hard-fought victories were built upon the efforts of generations of people who challenged the intolerance of the times. Join historian George Chauncey, who will draw from his forthcoming book Gay New York: Gender, Urban Culture, and the Making of the Gay Male World, 1890-1940, to discuss gay culture and politics in New York from the 1930s to 1970 and how the gay community fit into the larger fabric of New York City in mid-20th century.
