Halloween may be over, but the pumpkin fun is just getting started! The Lower East Side Ecology Center is inviting New Yorkers to its Pumpkin Smash, a festive, family-friendly celebration that turns your leftover Halloween decorations into something wonderful for the city. Bring your pumpkins, gourds, and jack-o'-lanterns and get ready to smash them to pieces — all for a great cause! Instead of ending up in a landfill, your pumpkins will be transformed into nutrient-rich compost for NYC parks and green spaces, giving them a second life. Beyond the smashing, expect fun giveaways, creative painting with food scraps, and personalized typewriter poetry with Jayshawn Lee from the Climate Imaginarium. Plus, feel the rhythm at a community drumming circle led by Fabio Puentes of Cultura Pa'lante, alongside even more surprises. Gather the family, bring your pumpkins, and celebrate sustainability with a little messy, feel-good fun!
