Earning the applause of The New York Times, the Michelin Guide, and Thrillist, Zanmi NYC adds flair, creativity, and culture to the burgeoning Brooklyn dining scene thanks to Haitian-native & Chef Wesly Jean Simon.
Having grown up in the Cité Simone (now Cité Soleil) region of Port-au-Prince, Chef Simon is all about bringing a taste of his home to the food-obsessed denizens of New York City. It all started during his time as sous-chef at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square.
The lack of Soup Joumou (a traditional Haitian Independence Day dish) sparked his craving to share this particular cuisine with the city - and so began the creation of this beloved staple. Marvel at a jaw-dropping hand-painted mural on the side of the restaurant before entering the color & energy-filled interiors, settling in for a transportive feast.
Swirl a glass of red wine as you devour a bowl of the Voodoo Pasta (rigatoni tossed in zesty alfredo sauce, cherry tomatoes, shallots, sweet peppers, mushrooms), not to mention the Whole Branzino marinated in Haitian epis sauce, grilled or fried to perfection adjacent a side of Macaroni Gratin.
