Founded by Chef Yuji Haraguchi of The New York Times Critic's Pick Okonomi and Yuji Ramen, Osakana is a singular artisanal fishmonger & education center dedicated to making edible art out of Atlantic Ocean catches.

Chef Haraguchi spent years as a Japan-based seafood importer for high-end sushi restaurants along the Eastern Seaboard, followed by a stint at 2 Michelin-starred Roberta's. Before long, his debut effort Yuji Ramen was being called "the most interesting ramen in the country" (Thrillist), and his sushi-making techniques were getting filmed for Bon Appetit Magazine.

Osakana means "honor your fish"; and the spirit of appreciating the sea's bounties runs through delicate fresh whole fish displayed on artist-made ceramics, a rotating menu of unusual sashimi like the summer flounder, the porgy and the dogfish, and the slow-simmered bone broth that lives up to the tenet of mottainai, or aversion to waste.

In this hands-on class, you will learn about the art and history of sushi as well as practical techniques for fresh, healthy and mesmerizing dinners at home. You'll season your rice with vinegar, delicately filet your fish and add appropriate garnishes from gomashio to yuzu.

All classes are BYOB, so feel free to bring along a favorite bottle as you get to savor the fruits of your labor. This illuminating and delicious experience is perfect for friends, dates and gastronauts alike!

Your $99 Semi-Private Sushi Making Class For Two (a $150 Value) Includes:

  • Admission to Osakana's Sushi Making Class for two people.
  • Between 2 and a maximum of 6 people per class.

Osakana earns a fantastic 4.5 stars out of 30+ reviews on Yelp, including:

  • "It was just us and one other couple, and we loved it!! The class is BYOB which is fun. It was authentic, very tasty, super fresh fish, and so fun! Totally worth it and definitely recommend for a date idea or with family or friends. In our class, we got to try 4 different types of fish."

  • "Noodle making class was everything I expected and more. We each made a batch of udon and soba, after watching Chef Jonathan do a batch. We took home a portion of fresh made ramen dough apiece, and the technique is very similar. Ambiance is great, place is great, people are friendly, can't say enough good things about the experience."

  • "OSAKANA to me is like, owner Yuji-san realized my dream before I even knew it. Not only do they offer fresh, locally and sustainably sourced seafood, the staff members are also very friendly and knowledgeable. I'm not just a fan. I'm a believer."
