This is what "family-run" actually looks like. Three generations of Azzollinis have kept the keys to this place since Cosmo bought it in 1968, and today it's Chef Greg Azzollini (an Institute of Culinary Education & Lupa Osteria alum) running the kitchen his grandfather built. The room now matches the ambition: retro charm dialed up with a chic, elegant refresh, cozy booths inside for old-school hush, and a brand-new streetside setup for people-watching Gramercy's best.
Start things off with the Calamari Fritti, crispy, golden, classic, served with a marinara. Move on to mains like the Linguine Alle Vongole repping little neck clams in white wine, garlic, and olive oil. Of course, you have to try the Bistecca Alla Pizzaiola, a black Angus NY strip smothered in peppers, mushrooms, and marinara, or the Filetto Di Salmone Con Asparagi that pairs salmon with asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes in a mustard cream sauce. And if you came for one thing and one thing only, it's the famous Chicken Parm.
Save room, because the Tiramisu here is just another decadent reason people come back. Wash it all down with a glass from their well-curated wine list or a classic cocktail shaken up right. Regulars have been coming for forty, fifty, sixty years. You're about to find out why...
Some restaurants serve food. Paul & Jimmy's serves history, and since 1950, they've been doing it on Irving Place without ever losing the plot. This is a Gramercy institution in the truest sense. We're talking three generations of the Azzollini family, and a commitment to Southern Italian cooking that hasn't wavered since Cosmo Azzollini first waited tables here before buying the place outright in 1968. Today it's Louis and his son Greg running the show, with Linda Azzollini keeping the books, aka a genuinely family-run operation.
The kitchen belongs to Chef Greg Azzollini, the third generation to culinary master, and his résumé reads like a love letter to Italian cooking. Think culinary school at ICE, a stint at Lupa Osteria, and further training in Italy before coming home. The result is old-world Southern Italian food made with delish delights like mozzarella made fresh daily, pasta made in-house, and sauces good enough that they now sell their own line in shops around the city.
Following a major renovation, the room now strikes a sharper, more elegant note. The retro DNA is still there in the warm lighting, cozy booths, and old-school Italian charm, but it's been given a chic, upgraded finish that reads fresh without erasing seventy-plus years of memory. New streetside seating out front lets you soak up Gramercy's energy while you eat, giving the whole experience a second gear. Settle into a booth inside for that timeless, old-world hush, or grab a table outside and let the neighborhood do the rest.
What really sets Paul & Jimmy's apart, though, is the crowd it keeps. This is a neighborhood spot where regulars have been coming for forty, fifty, sixty years, and where Louise can often tell a twenty-something what their parents or grandparents used to order. That's not nostalgia marketing. That's just what happens when a restaurant treats its customers like family for three generations running...
All selections will be made from the restaurant's full dinner menu.

"5/5 Stars – an absolute white tablecloth gem in Gramercy! Just had the pleasure of dining at Paul & Jimmy’s and wow—what a spectacular transformation! The food stays true to its old-world roots: rich, authentic Southern Italian dishes made with heart and tradition. We started with the calamari (perfectly crispy) and moved on to the spaghetti carbonara and osso buco—every bite was comforting, flavorful, and exactly what you’d hope for from a family-run classic. If you’re looking for genuine NYC Italian with history, incredible food, and now a stunning refreshed interior, Paul & Jimmy’s is not to be missed. Highly recommend!"
"Excellent neighborhood spot. Friendly and accommodating staff (shout out to Fernando!). Love the outdoor seating area to enjoy a few drinks and eats. Food was delicious! Had the burrata and beet appetizer, the vodka rigatoni made spicy (pasta was cooked perfectly and loved that it wasn’t swimming in sauce) and that tiramisu…WOW! Will def make this a frequent spot!"
"This place was a great choice, my wife and I loved it. Great food and drinks, wonderful staff. Nice and quiet dining room. We are looking forward to next time."
