Nestled in a picturesque space in Flatiron, Hortus is ready to wow your palate with a truly enchanting feast, showcasing the contemporary Asian cuisine that's earned it the applause from the critics at The New York Times, Eater, and The New York Times, who celebrate how it "strikes an elegant tone."
Dubbed "chic" by the Michelin Guide, Hortus invites you to grab your $99 pulse (a $156 value) for a 3 Course Chef's Tasting Dinner For Two that includes 2 First Courses, 2 Second Courses, 2 Third Courses, and 2 Cocktails, Glasses of Wine, Sakes, or Beers.
"The menu takes diners on a journey, exploring familiar tastes with innovative dishes and unexpected flavor pairings." So says Forbes when discussing the cuisine prepared by Chef Seungjoon Choi, formerly of Blanca, Marea, Lowlife and Gammeok. His drool-worthy riffs are both aesthetically and palatably beautiful, creating a dreamscape for the senses.
Let a craft cocktail like the Lychee Sour (Jinro soju, lychee puree, Lunar seltzer) kickstart the night as you begin with the Seafood Jewelry Box comprised of house chilly mayo, sea urchin, tuna, avocado, and soy cured ikura, moving on to A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Gui with fried shallots and chili oil. Finally, the juicy Ribeye steals the show via 13-ounce grilled prime ribeye steak and an Asian Caesar salad.
Amidst a bewitchingly awe-inspiring scene, get lost in the revelry of the flavors & feels at this esteemed jewel...
Partner and General Manager Suhum Jang (formerly of 3-time Michelin-Starred hotspots Per Se, Daniel, and Jung Sik) has joined forces with Chef Seungjoon Choi - whose impressive background includes Michelin-Starred Blanca and Marea - to create Hortus, a contemporary Asian treasure in NoMad which according to Forbes, "Seamlessly Fuses Flavors Of Southeast Asia."
Jang is clearly dedicated to creating an immersive experience, drawing on his time at some of the most coveted spots in the city. His attention to detail complements the imaginative and beautifully crafted dishes of Chef Choi, whose innovative approach creates the perfect balance of East & West fusion elements. The result? A divine exploration into gastronomy that will have you wowed from the moment you enter.
Located in the heart of Flatiron, Hortus spans two levels of stylish space. The first floor features an open kitchen with a striking pink marble counter and an intimate Chef's Table. Upstairs, the main dining room is all sophistication, with plush emerald leather banquettes, wood-framed green walls adorned with sconces, and candlelit bare wooden tables.
A wall of glass brings the city’s lights into the space, so let the energy flow as you peruse the impressive drinks lineup. Regulars adore the curated wine list, but the cocktails shine. The Piña is a great pick with Jinro soju, lime, mint, and chipotle pineapple chip, as is the Korean Connection repping amaretto & cherry.
The tasting menu will leave you spellbound as you dive into plates of Oyster & Shrimp Cocktail, Salmon Crudo, Black Galice Cacio e Pepe, Korean Smoked Pasta, Poached Smoked Cod with fried leeks & yuzu ikura veloute, Duck adjacent a sweet potato purée, and Steak Frites dripping with shiso butter. The choices are yours, and the outcome is sublime.
