There are wine lovers, and then there are En Rama Sherry Co. Founded in New York in 2016, En Rama has spent the last decade on a mission to change the way America drinks, understands & celebrates sherry. What began as a monthly pop-up inside Manhattan's Tertulia has evolved into an entire sherry universe spanning tastings, education, the Enramistas wine club, its Buelan bottling project, hospitality and Feria En Rama.
The name itself says plenty. En rama translates roughly to “unfiltered” or “from the branch,” a fitting philosophy for a team determined to introduce this remarkable wine to a new generation without stripping away the people, place & culture behind it.
And what a history there is to uncover. Sherry comes from the Marco de Jerez in sun-drenched Andalucía, where centuries of winemaking have turned grapes like Palomino into everything from bone-dry, saline Finos to deep, complex Olorosos. By the late 18th century, the region had developed the famous criaderas y solera system, in which younger and older wines are progressively blended during aging to create extraordinary consistency and complexity.
Add Andalucía's brilliant sunshine, chalky soils, Atlantic influence and generations of expertise, and you have one of the world's most distinctive wine cultures, one that En Rama has made its mission to champion stateside.
For a celebration this steeped in culture, the setting couldn't be more fitting. High Line Nine sits right in the heart of West Chelsea's renowned gallery district.
