Owner Sean Meenan dreamed of creating a place that brought people together over great food and even greater vibes. In 1998, he opened Café Habana in Nolita, a former Dominican diner, with a mission to offer an unpretentious space where people could enjoy hearty meals and connect. The 38-seat restaurant quickly became a beloved New York City institution.
Sean's passion for cooking came from his grandmother who taught him to cook in their kitchen when he was just knee-high. That’s where his passion with food remains - good times, good food, and good people.
With fans like Matthew McConaughey, Camila Alves, Leonardo Di Caprio, Susan Sarandon, Sheryl Crow, Lenny Kravitz and Robert De Niro, it's no wonder it's a city staple.
