Settle down in the soothing, softly-lit dining room to experience the beguiling flavors and textures of Penang; rich coconut milk, fragrant lemongrass, turmeric leaves, and creamy candle nuts all come together for dishes that are at once thrillingly new and irresistibly comforting.
From the buttery, flaky Roti Canai (curry potato dippings) to the full-flavored Beef Sambal in shrimp sauce and the Massaman Curry in sweet tamarind coconut broth, Rasa is "truly authentic, aromatic & brilliant" (Village Voice).

Named for the village where the sibling team Camie and Tommy Lai grew up, Rasa also means "taste" or "feeling" - brilliantly capturing the cozy and evocative mood of this Greenwich Village gem.
Rasa bases it's dishes on choo char Malaysian cooking, with added Japanese, Thai & Indian influences. Some menu items are truly unique; being made from ingredients imported directly from Malaysia because team Lai can't find suitable substitutes in the United States.
To start, try the Crispy Soft Shell Crab or the chef specialty Dumpling Fritters: minced chicken & shrimp wrapped in wonton skin, delicately fried and dipped in a sweet & tangy sauce, known across Asia as martabak.
Among entrees, the excellent Basil Red Snapper embodies the fabled wok hei flavor of a seasoned wok and flame; or choose the decadent Malaysian Curry, a creamy eggplant curry that comes with your choice of protein and lush coconut rice.
For a lighter entree, the Special Rolls are a hit - try the Monster Roll (spicy king crab, crab. asparagus, cucumber, tobiko on the inside & yellowtail jalapeno with truffle oil on the outside).
