The New York outpost of the fabled St. Petersburg restaurant, Mari Vanna is a fairytale, Old-World dream where "the beautiful setting matches the beautiful people, but the food remains as delicious as ever," per the Michelin Guide.
Experience Russian hospitality at its finest with this $59 pulse (a $132 value) for a 2 course cocktail brunch for two. You and a friend will savor 2 Appetizers, 2 Entrees, and 4 Bloody Marys, Mimosas, Rosés or hot drinks to share.
In the otherworldly dining room, crystal chandeliers and Louis XV chairs set an Imperial Russian mood as botanicals overflow from watering cans and the friendly staff flit about, serving house-infused vodkas to chatty guests.
Settle down at a linen-covered table and tuck into the Cured Herring on rye toast that The NY Times calls "marvelous," followed by the Russian Breakfast (sunny side up eggs, Kolbasa sausage) or the rich Chicken Stroganoff.

Named for a mythical grandmother who welcomes any strangers for delicious, home-cooked meals, Mari Vanna manages to exude the Russian penchant for grandeur (decor), decadence (caviar & champagne), and whimsy (knick knacks) in one inimitable experience.
Walk past the charming, cottage-chic entryway and you'll find yourself surrounded by nesting dolls, an elaborate library full of Russian literature, a violin, and sepia photographs, alongside aristocratic fine china and silver serving ware.
To start, you can't go wrong with the quintessential Borscht (beet & beef soup) served with warm rye bread and fresh dill butter. Move on to the Stuffed Eggplant baked and stuffed with ground beef, garlic, onions and served with couscous or the savory Potato Vareniki (handmade dumplings) served in a Russian doll to keep it warm.
The particularly potent Bloody Marys here are made with house-infused vodkas, though the Mimosas also nod to the Russian love of Champagne. A word of advice: if you do go for the Bloody Marys, be careful... they are Russian strong.
After just one visit, you'll know why The New Yorker claims Mari Vanna is "the setting for what the Russians call a skazka - a fairytale."
