Helmed by Chef Al Di Meglio (formerly of the Rubirosa), Barano is named after the quaint commune on the island of Ischia in Italy, aka the birthplace of his grandmother. Familial feels run through this gem, as do the scent of exquisite dishes that are crafted using the freshest ingredients - not to mention the custom wood burning oven that adds rustic charm to the scene.

As you relish a few 30 Seconds Flat cocktails with mezcal, kumquat, mint, ginger, and lemon, swoon over starters like Wood Roasted Bone Marrow (red wine gnocchetti, caramelized onions, parmigiano), moving on to mains, namely the ‘Nduja Pizza (ricotta, spicy pork salumi, fior di latte, Calabrian honey) and the Tagliatelle studded with dry aged beef bolognese, vegetables, and Parmigiano.

Add on some Tiramisu with whipped mascarpone, and trust us - you're in for a night of immersive Italian revelry...

Eater, The Infatuation, Time Out and The New York Times all agree - Barano is a beacon for authentic Southern Italian cuisine with New York City flair, all thanks to its esteemed chef. The scene is sparkling as you settle in under the shadow of the Williamsburg Bridge, preparing your palate for a superb lineup of plates that will wow with every mouthful.

Chef & Owner Albert Di Meglio, a former alum of Le Cirque, Osteria del Circo, and the Ritz-Carlton, recently channeled his Italian-American roots at Rubirosa, drawing inspiration from his childhood on Staten Island. Now, at his latest venture, Barano in Williamsburg's South Side, Di Meglio turns to his heritage, tracing his family’s roots to Barano, a town on the island of Ischia, near Naples.

His menu delves into classic Italian flavors, featuring hand-pulled mozzarella, fresh pastas, and his grandmother's famous signature recipes. Barano’s kitchen revolves around a wood-fired oven, rotisserie, and grill, all of which Di Meglio uses to craft drool-worthy creations cooked to absolute perfection.

Aside from Chef and owner Albert Di Meglio’s knack for fine-tuned flavor," according to the critics at *New York Magazine, "Barano’s best quality may just be its seemingly inbuilt sense of welcoming." Cuddle up to a modern rustic aesthetic, outfitted with leather booths, patina mirrors, pearl-laden columns, concrete tabletops, a marble bar, and the like.

The drinks program is equally impressive, sporting craft cocktails, curated wines, and revolving beers that elevate your feast to new heights. The Barano Negroni is a top pick, boasting blood orange + rosemary gin, sweet vermouth, and marmalade aperitivo, best paired with a plate of Dry Aged Polpette, aka 21-day dry-aged beef meatballs with herb ricotta & Parmigiano.

Whether it's sharing their famed Chef's Choice of Three Pastas, all made in-house fresh daily, or savoring slices of the Tie Dye Pizza adorned with tomato, vodka + pesto sauce, and fior di latte mozzarella, and Parmigiano, marvel at each homemade delicacy. We also adore the meaty Ricotta Gnocchi boasting lamb ragu, Fresno chilis, mint, and Pecorino di Parco.

For dessert, go big with the Rainbow Cookie Sundae topped with rum marinated raspberries and bruléed meringue. Your taste buds are in for a divine treat...

All selections are made from the restaurant's full dinner menu.

  • "Such a great spot!!! One of the few restaurants in NY I have been to multiple times."

  • "We had the pleasure of dining at Barano on a Saturday night recently. The restaurant had a good energy. Our server was very friendly and provided his recommendations when asked. He was polite and cheerful. Every thing we ate was amazing. The aranchini was fried crisp, well seasoned and tasty. The two different pizzas were great. The gnocchi was exceptional - probably one of the best pastas I've had in New York, and I have had a lot of pasta. We will definitely be coming back."

  • "I enjoyed my meal here. The staff were all fantastic for service. The food was really delicious and I look forward to coming back."
