Remember the theater from the Oscar-winning film, Shakespeare in Love? The Globe Theatre, an open-air and in-the-round theater, was how Shakespeare’s work was originally performed over 400 years ago. And now, you don’t need to go back in time to experience Shakespeare how it was meant to be seen. This summer, Shakespeare Downtown offers the unique opportunity to see Shakespeare’s tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet, at the Castle Clinton National Monument in Battery Park. Not only is this production at a castle (and what could be cooler than watching theater in a castle?), but the show is performed in the round and outdoors beneath the stars, just as Shakespeare saw his own work performed. And if that isn’t enough, here’s the best part - it’s completely free!
