The Lofts At Waverly Place
23 Waverly Place
Built originally as a hat factory in 1891, Waverly Mews is comprised of four separate wood-frame buildings which were joined together when it became a rental building in 1973 and then a co-op in 1984. The land upon which the building stands was owned by NYU and purchased by the sponsor as a condition to co-op conversion. The original entrance was on Waverly Place, hence the address. However, upon conversion, the developer chose what had been the delivery entrance on Greene Street for access because of its charm. Currently, entrance is through iron gates into a charming planted courtyard with a seating area. The courtyard and roof deck are wonderful amenities which give residents an opportunity to socialize (or not) and enjoy the outdoors without having to leave home.
