The Flower Shop
Whenever it does open, the 3,000 square-foot “elevated gastropub” will focus on “Staple Americana with crop rotation, locality, and sustainability.” (It’s like you need a masters to understand the foodie babble.) The eatery, helmed by chef Michael Hamilton, is apparently on the first floor; the basement is more of a “rec room” pub that boasts TVs, billiards, and a “sunken den with a fish tank and a gas fireplace.” Principals behind the Flower Shop venture at 107 Eldridge – William Tisch (Major Food Group), Steven Tisch, Andrew Flynn (Brinkley’s), Dave Turner (Major Food Group), and Dylan Hales (Ruby’s Cafe) – initially secured approval from the Community Board 3 advisory body in March 2016. Not without backlash, though. Neighbors didn’t buy the whole “we’re a neighborhood bar” as public benefit cliche, and worried about the proliferation of liquor licenses in the predominantly Chinese block. Others have taken to calling this spot “Hell Square South” due to the 12 OPs in the vicinity, including problem places like Happy Ending.
