I Tre Merli's new location in New York City's Meatpacking District is only part of its long history spanning two continents and four decades... I TRE MERLI was born in 1980 when an old working-class wine bar in the heart of Genoa Italy, was transformed into a locale where hip, young people could enjoy traditional dishes accompanied by local and prized wines, bottled in I Tre Merli's very own cellar. In 1985 this concept was exported, with the opening of I TRE MERLI Restaurant and Wine Bar in New York, in the trendy neighborhood of SoHo. This restaurant was immediately successful, an early ambassador of the new Italian Style in food and design. Drawing much attention and a celebrity crowd, I TRE MERLI was able to replicate its concept and design in two new locations in Miami Beach and Chicago in the 1980's. These were followed in the 90's by several new locations in Genoa, Italy: Antica Cantina and I Tre Merli Ristorante Porto Antico; and then I Tre Merli Locanda in the picturesque port town of Camogli, Italy. I Tre Merli Bistro was in the West Village from 2003 to 2012, and now I Tre Merli has a new NYC location in the Meatpacking District. Housed in a space that maintains the building’s original exposed brick, metal hardware, and high ceilings, I TRE MERLI's aesthetic is the perfect blend of New York’s urban ruggedness and Italy’s alluring rustic style. The beautiful garden is complemented by a retractable roof that makes dining alfresco a year round possibility.
