Boticarios
58 E 1st Street | (917) 261-7850
The name of this East Village watering hole comes from the Spanish word for chemist. Though bartenders aren’t mixing up home remedies, they’re certainly dishing out complex cocktails. Try the Ponche de Maracuya with tequila, passion fruit, Agavero and prosecco ($12) or the matcha daiquiri with white rum, lime, oleo saccharum and matcha powder ($14). Boticarios also offers wines by the glass and bottle, as well as Tecate ($5) and Modelo ($6). The kitchen pumps out Latin-influenced dishes, as well. Start with striped bass tartare with charcoal chips and citrus-saffron glaze ($12), smoky shrimp in mole ($20) or Brazilian chicken croquettes with lime cream ($12). Main courses include red snapper with nopales, poblano peppers and chipotle salsa ($26) and grilled skirt steak with chilaquiles, shishito peppers, charred cipollini onions, beans and chimichurri sauce ($30).
