The word regatta might conjure up Ivy League crew teams racing each other, but Red Hook Regatta is just as thrilling - and a lot more whimsical. The boats will be designed and 3D printed by artists and makers at Pioneer Works. They will be required to carry "cargo" to be picked up by "cranes" at a pier for points, and the host promises that "this race is mayhem - the tides, the wind, the wakes from real container ships...make the race a must-see event." Last year's inaugural race drew hundreds of spectators and was covered by The NY Times, and this year will have another great turn-out.
