Since 2004, this iconic neighborhood stalwart has been bringing the richly varied regional cuisines of Spain - from Galicia to Andalucía, the Basque Country to Cataluña - to the taste buds of New Yorkers. Owners Heather Belz and Mani Dawes spend years living in Spain, and have since captured the magic of the country to share with the denizens of The Big Apple.
Brunch is a twist on the Spanish tradition or tapas, treating your palate to plates like Huevos Rotos (sunny side egg, chorizo, potatoes, onions) and Torrijas, aka Spanish-style French toast with sumptuous syrup. Follow that with their signature Churros con Chocolate - bliss in every bite!

When owners Heather Belz and Mani Dawes opened Tai Pol in 2004, it seemed destined to happen. Mani had lived in Spain for several years and often found herself longing for Madrid, especially the neighborhood tapas bars that had once been such an integral part of her daily life. Around the same time, Heather, who had also spent years traveling across Spain, made her way to New York.
The two had dreamed of opening a restaurant ever since working together at L’Economie Restaurant in New Orleans, and when a friend introduced them to a small space on 10th Avenue, they recognized the opportunity to bring a taste of Spain to the city. Their vision was to recreate the authentic Spanish tapas bar, inspired by nights of “tapeo” (hopping from bar to bar) in the Lavapiés and La Latina neighborhoods of Madrid.
This tradition became the foundation for the kind of place they hoped to build in Manhattan, a warm and convivial spot that evoked the essence of Spanish social life. The final step was choosing a name. Mani thought of Tía Pol, a cat she had befriended in Málaga, whose name stirred fond memories of her travels throughout Andalucía and other parts of Spain she had come to love as a second home.
With that name, the restaurant was born. From the day it opened, Tía Pol has remained dedicated to recreating the beauty of Spanish culture & cuisine. On the weekends, this is no exception, as the city's favorite pastime - brunch - gets a fiesta spin. Think tapas treats like Breakfast Bocadillos filled with succulent stuffings, and Torta De Santiago, a beloved almond cake that always hits the sweet spot.
