Four generations of Scarpati have made their mark on the New York City dining scene. Grandfather Ferdinando opened his first spot in the Bronx after coming over from Italy. His son, Giuseppe, helmed the kitchen at The Rainbow Room. Now, Giuseppe's son Executive Chef Fernando Scarpati, and daughter, Aida Scarpati, bring their slice of Italia to the West Village with flavors & bella vibes aplenty.

At Ferdi, a deep love for Italian cuisine and culture has been passed down through generations. It all began with Ferdinando - affectionately known as Ferdi - who was born and raised on the Italian island of Ponza. After immigrating to the US, he opened the original Ferdi’s in the Bronx, laying the foundation for a family tradition.
His son, Giuseppe, followed in his footsteps, eventually becoming Executive Chef at the iconic Rainbow Room atop 30 Rockefeller Center, and later opening several successful restaurants across the tri-state area. Today, the legacy continues at Ferdi in the West Village through sibling partners Aida Scarpati and Executive Chef Fernando Scarpati (a Food Network alum) who bring their family's passion and heritage to every dish.
Fernando Scarpati has honed his craft at The Culinary Institute of America, as well as some of the finest Italian restaurants around the world, including Marea in New York, Palazzo Petrucci - the first Michelin-starred restaurant in Naples - and A Casa di Assunta in Lazio, honored with the Slow Food Award by Alice Waters. He has also starred on the Food Network's "Alex vs. America," and served celebs the likes of Martha Stewart.
Aida, a graduate of the prestigious Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, grew up immersed in the family business, learning the art of Italian hospitality firsthand. Her experience also includes time on the team at Cote Steakhouse in Flatiron, further refining her expertise in the industry.
