Ishta in Sanskrit means “that which resonates with the individual spirit” and is also an acronym for the Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra, and Ayurveda. At Ishta in the East Village, all signs point to serenity, achieved within a stunning, sprawling studio just steps from Union Square.
Founded by Yogiraj Alan Finger, Ishta is a community of like-minded individuals united by a heart-centered approach to life and a spirit of generosity. Combining the ancient wisdom of ancient & modern techniques, Ishta addresses the unique needs of each student with both intelligence and authenticity.
Yogiraj Alan Finger began his yoga practice when he was 15 years old, after his father built an ashram in their South African home. The family hosted numerous yoga gurus, and over the years, Finger and his father mastered a myriad of teachings and techniques.
In 2008, Finger decided to bring his calming practice to busy New Yorkers. He is joined by Yogiraj Mona Anand, the Co-Owner and New York City Studio Director & Senior Trainer, as well as Yogiraj Sarah Platt-Finger, the Co-Founder of ISHTA Yoga, LLC and Director of Chopra Yoga at IIN.
With its heart-centered approach, Ishta provides a space where you can explore yoga as a personal journey, not just a physical practice. Whether it's improving flexibility, strength, or mental clarity, Ishta's method fosters personal growth, stress relief, and emotional healing, no matter your age, experience, or fitness level.

Ishta Yoga garners a terrific 4.2 Stars on Yelp from 125+ reviews including:
"I took a wonderful restorative yoga class with Gina today! It was my first time to the studio and I LOVE it. Easy to find, good location, ground floor, friendly receptionist - but the studio itself has so much space and that can be rare to find in NYC! Everyone had their own space and it was a full class. Gina was incredible, guiding us through a series of long restorative poses, encouraging us to set an intention, and listen to our bodies. Can't wait to continue my practice in this beautiful studio."
"My favorite yoga studio in NYC and a gem. Tons of good teachers depending on what you're looking for. The meditation classes are great too. Bonus: the main studio is large, spacious and beautifully zen; rarely feeling cramped or too crowded, which in NYC is a luxury."
"Ishta Yoga is a lovely studio with a variety of classes for all students. Yin, Restorative, as well as different level classes. The teachers are very good and open to helping students. The studio is cozy and peaceful. Highly recommend!"
