Alphaville
The co-owner of nearby bar Alaska, Skyler Insler teamed up with musician Scott Rosenthal to create what they’re calling a dive bar, with $6 beer/shot specials, and live music. Here, the star isn’t the drinks—the most popular of which is Budweiser—but the burgers and chicken nuggets. There’s plenty of room to enjoy your grub, too. Wrapping around an apartment entrance in a U-shaped curve, there are roughly four spaces with distinct atmospheres. Sit in a booth, at the long, dark-wood bar, or at a table in more polished area with tiles and gold wallpaper—they’re all good for hanging. Or stand on the concrete floor in the front room alongside plywood and two lonely benches—practically the only nod to its “dive bar” identity. — Stephanie Eckardt, New York Magazine
