An all-star ensemble comprised of alumni of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s (JALC) Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program plays the music of Duke Ellington and celebrates the 17th anniversary of the annual education event that brings top high school jazz bands to New York City for the Festival and Competition.

16 participating high school jazz bands from across North America are selected to spend three days in New York City in which they are immersed in workshops, rehearsals, jam sessions, and performances at JALC. Alumni of Essentially Ellington include Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra bassist Carlos Henriquez, saxophonist Erika von Kleist, and bassist David Wong. Join us for this special performance that leads up to the final concert of the annual Competition and Festival at Avery Fisher Hall on Sunday, May 6th.
