This talk will focus on the career of Jonathan Higbee, and how he used photography as a means to adjust to life in New York City and its commercialism, capitalism, hustle, and twenty-four-hour lifestyle—eventually creating a viral photo series of surreal and almost unbelievable juxtapositions that would later be compiled into his first book "Coincidences." Higbee will share key photos from the series, and discuss his intensive process for shooting each photo, some of which took days, weeks, and even months to capture. He will also contextualize his role in the street photography community and how it has evolved past pure documentary photography.
