Trans Van Santos is the cosmic alter ego of idiosyncratic songwriter and mystic, Mark Matos, a native of the Bay Area who spent years in the Tucson, AZ music scene under the tutelage of desert rock godfather Howe Gelb where he played under the name Campo Bravo with a back up band that consisted of future members of Dr. Dog, Golden Boots, Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter, and Giant Sand, before returning to San Francisco some five plus years ago and forming Mark Matos & Os Beaches, signing to local imprint Porto Franco Records and releasing the critically lauded Words Of The Knife in 2009 (which featured members of Court & Spark, Jolie Holland band, Blank Tapes, and Rupa & The April Fishes).
