School of Rock recently hit Broadway as a musical and Nickelodeon as a TV series, but it started out as a Golden Globe-nominated film. The movie follows Dewey Finn, a rock singer without a band, who becomes a substitute teacher and discovers his students have musical talent. He forms the class into a band to perform at the Battle of the Bands while keeping it a secret from the parents and school administration. Central Park Conservancy Film Festival will be screening the movie for free at Marcus Garvey Park, with a DJ performance before the film.
