Inequality is at the highest level since just before the 1929 depression, with wages stagnant or declining for most Americans. To address the increasing economic divide, many grassroots organizations are working to combat the challenges faced by low- and middle-income Americans. Representatives from New York’s anti-poverty movement will discuss how we can transform the systemic structures responsible for perpetuating poverty and hunger; how to generate political momentum for better jobs, expanded access to work, and protections for low-wage workers and the unemployed; and how to give voice to America’s poor, and empower them to be active in systemic socioeconomic change.
