On Friday, April 24, Flatiron Plaza (Broadway & 23rd Street) becomes a living work of art as Rothy’s teams up with MET- and MoMA-collected artist Willie Cole to create a large-scale public sculpture built from 2,500 donated plastic water bottles—assembled in real time by New Yorkers. Free and open to all, the experience invites guests to bring a single-use plastic bottle and exchange it for a reusable one while contributing to the installation, with Cole on-site from 11:00am to 2:00pm. A pop-up refill station from HOPE Hydration will keep bottles full while tracking live sustainability stats like refills, plastic saved, and CO2 diverted, turning everyday waste into a powerful, collective statement—especially when you consider that Americans discard 60 million plastic bottles daily, making this entire sculpture equivalent to just seconds of national waste.
