On January 16, Greater Fort Lauderdale will bring sunshine and warmth to winter weary New Yorkers with a takeover of the Rink at Rockefeller Center. The Goodbye Chilly. Hello Sunny event will take place for one day with the transformation of the Rink at Rockefeller Center into an island paradise featuring lavish tropical décor (lifeguard station, beach chairs) and free ice skating for the public for six hours. The free Rockefeller Center “skating party” will feature bikini-clad ice dancers, street teams dispensing “warm hugs,” groovy summery beach skating music, swaying palm trees, beach umbrellas and warming stations to defrost between skating. A colorful and telegenic “Beach-on-Wheels” beach mobile will be onsite and available for filming, live remotes and interviews. The Beach Mobile houses real white Greater Fort Lauderdale sand and live models wearing bathing suits playing with beach toys and beach balls.
