From his first feature Pi (shown in New Directors/New Films) to his current Black Swan (shot at Lincoln Center), Darren Aronofsky displays an outsider’s sensibility, drawing viewers in to his films with their hypnotic qualities.

- An Evening with Darren Aronofsky

All of his work is characterized by its sharp cinematic intelligence and a distinctive style that brings complex dreamlike visual trajectories to sharply edged storylines. This two-day appreciation of Aronofsky’s stories and style includes Pi, Requiem for a Dream (with a fantastic performance by Ellen Burstyn), The Fountain, and the 2008 New York Film Festival Closing Night film, The Wrestler, starring a re-discovered Mickey Rourke.

On January 5, the screening of The Wrestler will be followed by an in-depth conversation with Aronofsky, including clips of Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman.
