They started in 2003 when the lead singer/rapper, Free, decided to move beyond the basic hip-hop formula of "two turntables and a microphone" and formed an actual band with the addition of E Ives on guitar/vocals, Premo D'Anger on the keyboard and Kickman Teddy on the drums. Growing up surrounded by the rich musical landscape embedded in Memphis' history, FreeSol is naturally influenced by a variety of sounds from blues to rock to hip-hop.
