Orhan Pamuk is the rare non-English-writing author who commands such a following in the Anglophone countries and around the world. His My Name is Red garnered him the Nobel Prize, and in 2008, he used his prize money to establish the Museum of Innocence in Istanbul, based on his 2005 novel - a bold move that reaches far beyond the traditional realm of authorly activities. He sits down with Massimiliano Gioni at the New Museum to discuss the notion of private, individualized museums as replacements for public institutions.
